Ebbsfleet Green Dads Leading the Way: A Powerful Partnership for Mental Fitness

At Head In The Game, we believe in the power of sport to change lives, and there’s no better example of that than our incredible partnership with Ebbsfleet Green Primary School. Working alongside the school and a group of dedicated dads, we’ve witnessed first-hand how football can break down barriers, build connections, and create a support network for men navigating the challenges of everyday life.

From the outset, the school has embraced our vision of using sport as a tool to improve mental fitness and well-being. What started as casual conversations at the school gates has grown into a fully-fledged mental fitness initiative, with dads stepping forward to take charge of their own well-being while encouraging others to do the same. Thanks to funding from the Ebbsfleet Garden City Trust, the school have been able to provide a structured 12-week programme that equips these men with the skills, confidence, and tools to support not only themselves but also their wider community.

A School That Shares Our Vision

It has been truly inspiring to work with a school that understands the importance of mental health and is committed to fostering an environment where parents and carers feel supported. Ebbsfleet Green Primary School has set an example of how schools can play a pivotal role in community mental fitness, providing safe spaces for open conversations and growth. By partnering with Head In The Game, they’ve demonstrated their dedication to well-being beyond the classroom, ensuring that parents feel just as valued and supported as their children.

The Power of the Dads’ Programme

The impact of this initiative has been undeniable. The dads involved—Tom, Jamie, Mick, Gogs, and Ant—have not only improved their own mental and physical health but have also built a tight-knit community where honest conversations can take place. Through football sessions, these men have found a space where they can let their guard down, talk openly, and most importantly, know that they’re not alone.

Reflecting on the programme, Ant shared, “A lot of men keep their feelings inside and don’t talk to each other. If I can help just one person through a tough time, I’ll be happy.” This sentiment is echoed by the other dads, who see this initiative as the beginning of something much bigger than just 12 weeks of football.

More Than Just Football

This project is about far more than playing the game—it’s about shifting attitudes around men’s mental health and creating long-term change. Jamie summed it up perfectly: “We want this to be the end of the ‘man up’ era. This community we’re building is giving men a space to share and feel heard.”

At Head In The Game, we couldn’t be prouder to be part of this journey. Seeing a school so actively engage with and support our mission has been a privilege, and we know this is just the start of something special. This project proves that when schools, communities, and organisations come together with a shared vision, real change happens.

We’re excited to see what the future holds for the Ebbsfleet Green dads and look forward to expanding our work with other schools that are ready to embrace the power of sport for mental fitness. Together, we are changing the game.
