Winter Mission Britain x R World

In 2024 alone 12,565 men tragically passed away as a result of completing suicide, making it the biggest killer of men under the age of 55 in the United Kingdom.

Robbie Curtis was a young man from Canterbury with a passion for sport, travel and helping others. In August 2020, he took his own life aged just 22. His mum, Lesley Curtis, set up R World in his memory, determined to continue his kindness and create a lasting legacy through helping others.

With support from Robbie’s friends, Lesley established the charity to improve mental health support for young people and support education and development projects in Africa, reflecting causes that mattered to him. This included funding mental health first aid training in schools and universities, helping people recognise when someone may be struggling and understand how to offer support.

On 15 November, Robbie’s birthday, Harvey, Seamus and Tom will be shining a light in his memory during their journey around Britain’s coastline. It is an opportunity to remember Robbie and encourage more open conversations about mental health, so that fewer people feel they have to struggle alone.

R World is a grassroots foundation established to celebrate and remember the life of Robbie Curtis, a young man from Kent.

Over the next 6 months, we will be following the incredible journey of 3 friends who set off from the Lake District on 6 October on a truly inspiring mission. They are Winter Mission GB, who are running the entire coastline of Britain through the depths of winter.

Their challenge is extraordinary: 5,240 miles, 84,000 metres of climbing (more than 9 times the height of Everest) and just 180 days to complete it. They will carry all their own kit and sleep wherever they stop along the way.

Throughout their journey, they will be sharing their adventures and raising money for grassroots charities working in sport and conservation.

Winter’s long, dark days can be particularly challenging for our mental health, and we will be supporting the campaign they are helping to promote. Keep the Light On is built around a simple but powerful idea: getting moving, spending time outdoors and looking out for one another can help us through even the darkest months.

Follow @wintermissionbritain to cheer them on, track the boys’ journey on their website and donate here if you can.
