Mental Fitness Centres – A New Concept

Mental Fitness Centres are a new community based approach from Head In The Game, designed to bring people together through connection, activity and wellbeing in welcoming local spaces. Open to everyone and free to attend, these centres create opportunities for people to improve their mental fitness, build confidence and meet others through inclusive daytime sessions. Activities include table tennis, darts and pool, giving people enjoyable and accessible ways to stay active, social and engaged in a relaxed environment.

We recognise that traditional evening sport and activity sessions do not work for everyone. Many people work shifts, work from home, have caring responsibilities, or simply have limited time outside of the day to focus on their own wellbeing. Mental Fitness Centres provide flexible daytime opportunities that fit around real life, helping people access activity and social connection at times that are more realistic and sustainable for them, without any cost barrier to taking part.

These centres are also about creating healthier social spaces away from pub based environments, giving people more options to connect in positive settings that support wellbeing. By making use of existing community facilities, we can strengthen local venues, bring residents together, and create a stronger sense of belonging across our towns and neighbourhoods. Mental Fitness Centres are about prevention, connection and helping communities become healthier together.

Herne Bay Sports Hub

Our partnership with Herne Bay Sports Hub marks an exciting step forward for Head In The Game, with the Hub becoming our pioneer partner in the development of Mental Fitness Centres. By working together, we are able to utilise a fantastic community space that is ideally suited to bringing people together through connection, activity and wellbeing. With dedicated indoor areas for table tennis, darts and pool, the venue provides the perfect environment for people to enjoy relaxed, social activities that support mental fitness.

This partnership is built on a shared commitment to supporting the local community and creating more opportunities for people to access free, welcoming daytime sessions. Herne Bay Sports Hub already plays an important role within the town, and by working alongside them we can help maximise the use of their facilities while creating meaningful opportunities for residents to improve confidence, reduce isolation and build stronger social connections.

Alongside the indoor facilities, the Hub’s occasional outdoor space also creates opportunities for future activities, social sessions and community events that further promote wellbeing and togetherness. We are proud to be working with Herne Bay Sports Hub as pioneer partners and look forward to showing how community spaces can be used in innovative ways to help people become healthier, happier and more connected.

Just Drop By!

These sessions are all about creating a relaxed, welcoming space where people can come as they are. Whether you want to have a game of darts, play some table tennis, or just sit down with a coffee and have a chat, it is completely up to you. There is no pressure and no expectations, just a chance to take some time out, meet new people and connect in a safe, supportive environment. It is a place to unwind, have a laugh, talk if you want to, or simply be around others and feel part of something.
